It appears that the Ukrainian cockiness in the Kharkov Oblast counter offensive whilst the Russian forces were withdrawing was based purely on the numbers.

The Russian defense lines were thinly spread with some parts where Russian platoon of troops were made to face off against an entire Ukrainian Battalion. In one Russian Intelligence Officer's declassified account to Russian media, there was a sitrep report where only 20 Russian Soldiers (Barely a Platoon strength) were confronted by a Ukrainian Battalion strength of over 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers.
Obviously, the Russian platoon was forced to retreat.
It appears that the Ukrainians are desperate to overrun the Russian positions in there race against time and especially the weather. As winter approaches, the Autumn wet weather, the mud and slush is said to influence the mechanised movements of Armies. As the lesson of history will teach that the Russian Steppes will always favour the defending army.
The Russians understand the strategic objectives of the Ukrainians, they are to drive deeply into the Donbass Region and to drive the Russians as far East as possible, then to establish a defensive line to wait out the 90 days of Autumn and Winter whilst being geavily embedded in defilade defensive positions during the winter months.
Russia clearly understand the Ukrainian military strategy and will counteract this objective as earnestly as possible with the creation of an effective disruptive actions to SLOW down to a sluggish halt the Ukrainian counter offensive.
At this point in time, the Russians have successfully concluded their Referenda despite the increased intensity of the Ukrainian Artillery and missile strikes upon various polling stations which were not announced openly to allow the Ukrainians to target the polling stations during the Referenda. The victory to the Pro Russian reunification was resoundingly rejected by the WORLD. Not that this mattered to the Russians, after all, the Referenda was for the Russian Government and the Russian people ONLY.
In the meantime, the 45 NATO member Nations are meeting today in Brussels to discuss the Ukrainian Offensive and the strategic plan for the next 90 days of hell for Ukraine. Since Russia has now declared that the contested Ukrainian Oblasts of Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporizhzhia and Kherson are now to be officially annexed into the Russian Federation along with the Crimea Oblast, the expansion of the Russian Federation to include the Five former Ukrainian Oblast territories will require a significant Ukrainian and NATO countermeasures which may also include the proposal of direct NATO military intervention? This may also include the likelihood of a declaration of war between Russia and NATO.
The crucial Brussels meeting will determine the likelihood of NATO and Russia declaring war.
We will await the outcome of this meeting.

Interesting to see how the Tongan Armed Forces will be present at the next Talisman Saber military exercise in 2023. Samoa is excluded as per usual simply because Samoa has no Armed Forces. Funnily enough, the British had deliberately denied the  Samoans a military branch since the British Empire invaded German Samoa on August 29th, 1914. Samoa has never had a military branch. Nor does Samoa every want to. It is percieved as unnecessary. Samoa is twice the population of Tonga and yet Samoa has no military branch.
